It’s okay to grieve over the loss of your dream home, but you can’t stay down forever.

If you’ve been around long enough to where you’re looking at buying a new home, chances are you’ve been through some sort of heartbreak before. Whether it’s getting rejected by your first crush or watching your favorite team lose a big game to a rival, we all know the feeling of getting our hopes up just for them to come crashing down around us.

Still, nothing can prepare you for the feeling of seeing the home of your dreams get snatched away from you and not being able to do anything about it. You already started planning where to put your new furniture and which walls to paint. You had been daydreaming about having friends over for cookouts in that huge backyard. And now it’s gone, and it didn’t even say goodbye. It’s a feeling that if you’re lucky, you may never experience. But this blog post isn’t for the lucky ones, now is it? So gather ’round, my brothers and sisters in heartbreak, and let’s get through this together.

Nothing can prepare you for the feeling of seeing the home of your dreams get snatched away from you and not being able to do anything about it.

No shame in your game

They can take away your house, but they can’t take away your dignity!

It happens to the best of us. Missing out on something you really wanted is never fun. It’s okay to feel bummed out for a bit. Take a couple of days to mourn the loss of the home of your dreams. Buy a tub of ice cream and have at it! You can’t wallow in your sadness though. A loss is a lesson, and there’s always something to be learned when things don’t go your way.

Learn from failure

If you learn from defeat, did you really even lose?

Why didn’t you get your dream home? Was it too far out of your budget? Did you move on it too slowly? Maybe you held out for a better deal that never came. You never really know what you’ve got until it’s gone. The key is to turn that regret into productivity. Learn from whatever mistakes you made and don’t let them happen again. It’s time to move on. Kiss that sadness goodbye and get ready to move forward.

Set new goals

A new lease on life. Believe and achieve.

Now that we’ve learned from our mistakes, it’s time to set new goals with those lessons in mind. What are you going to do differently this time to make sure you don’t get hurt again? Maybe you should be more specific with your goals, so when you find a house that meets your criteria you know it’s the one. Maybe this time you’re willing to move further away from the city to find a better value. Is it possible that you don’t need that extra bedroom? These are the questions you have to ask yourself when you’re setting new goals, but it’s all up to you!

Get back on the horse

Back like we never left.

We’ve mourned, we’ve learned, we’ve recalibrated. Now it’s time to get back in the game. One thing about heartbreak is it doesn’t last forever. There are plenty of other houses in the sea just waiting to be picked. Yeah, you missed out on your dream home, but nobody said you can only have one dream. The house for you is out there somewhere, all you have to do is find it!
